Shandor is an award-winning filmmaker who works both as a writer-director and an editor. As a writer-director he has helmed over a dozen short films, including the web series Brooklyn is for Lovers, the Thundershorts series American Viral starring Michael Showalter, and the TV pilot Goon Squad starring James Franco and Hank Azaria. He also is an in-demand editor for brands such as Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Bon Appetit, Wired, Teen Vogue, GQ, Glamour, Self, Golf Digest, The Scene and Gunpowder & Sky. His work was recently recognized with a 2017 James Beard Media Award (Bon Appetit's 24 Hours at Franklin's BBQ below).
In previous lives, Shandor taught English to kindergarteners in Japan, insulated homes in Vermont, counseled HIV+ teens, worked for the nonprofit Farm School, and waited tables in a 4 star French restaurant. His films draw on these broad range of experiences, with storylines often centering on the forging of connections, and the serio-comic state of modern relationships.
Shandor holds a BA from Williams College, and an MFA in Film Production from NYU. At Tisch, he co-founded the Purple List, the annual list of the best, production-ready feature screenplays from the NYU Grad Film community. Many of these features have been made, see below (Vimeo password: 2017) :
Shandor lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two sons.
